Meyer first edition up for sale on ebay!

A very rare copy of ‘Across East African Glaciers’, Hans Meyer’s account of his pioneering ascent of Kilimanjaro, has just been put up for sale on ebay for a starting price of £1495.00. Normally, this book (the English translation, which seems to be slightly rarer - and thus more expensive) retails for around £3000-5000, so it does seem to be a bit of a steal. Having used the British Library’s copy extensively while researching for the first edition of the guide, I can also state that it is one of the most beautiful books I have ever come across, with some beautiful illustrations and maps. Whilst I obviously can’t vouch for the condition of the book on ebay, it does seem to be a good price; though, of course, whether you’d be willing to dish out that kind of money for a book you’ve never actually seen other than a few scanned photos on ebay is another matter.
