New estimate on Kili’s disappearing glaciers

Monday November 20th 2006

A report carried in the UK’s Times newspaper (Sat 18th November 2006) has suggested that scientists working for TANAPA (The Tanzanian National Parks Authority) have estimated that Kilimanjaro will lose its iconic snow cap by 2018. This is pretty much in line with the work of other scientists such as Prof Lonnie Thomson of the University of Ohio. It also provides perhaps the biggest - and most depressing - evidence of the effect of global warming and climate change. You can find out more about the disappearing glaciers on p83 of the current edition of the Kili guide.
