Scope trek successes

Wednesday 28th March 2007

A large party of trekkers recently attempted to climb Kilimanjaro in aid of Scope, the British charity dedicated to helping those with cerebral palsy.

Of the team of 38, 25 managed to make it to Gilman’s Point; this, despite the inclement conditions (snow etc) that have been afflicting on Kili recently. Of those 25, 15 then went on to make it to the summit and Uhuru Peak.

Wyn Jones, one of the successful 15, said that, at the top there was ‘a good layering of snow and ice at the top’, so it would appear that the heavy snows that fell earlier this year have yet to disappear entirely. Wyn also writes that they have set up a gallery of their photos. (You can find it by following this link to the Scope Gallery.) We’ll also be putting up their picture in our Hall of Fame in the near future.

Congratulations are due to all those who made it to the top - and, indeed, well done to everyone who took part in the expedition!
