Poledancing record set on summit of Kilimanjaro!

Tuesday 18th September 2007

Six girls from Britain have just written themselves into the book of Records You Didn’t Know Existed by poledancing at the summit of Kilimanjaro. The world’s highest poledance took place on 7th September 2007 when the six – Christine, Cath, Tori, Julia, Alison and Sarah – reached the summit via the Machame Route, unpacked their pole…and got to work!

Nor was it any normal pole they danced around, having been specially made by an engineering company that makes equipment for the British Antarctic Expeditions from lightweight material and broken up into simple-to-reassemble-parts to make it easier to cart up 5895m up the tallest mountain in Africa.

Fellow trekkers lucky enough to be on the mountain at the same time as them were allowed to try their hands (and any other parts of their anatomy) at pole dancing themselves, including a couple of blokes who’ve probably written themselves into the record books as the first males to poledance on Kili.

The main reason behind their unusual achievement was to raise money and awareness of the charity Women and children in Africa (WACIA), which provides aid to deprived regions in the areas of education, health and rural development.
