Request for snowy Kilimanjaro photos

Thursday 27th September 2007

I have just received an email containing both a heartrending tale and a plaintive cry for help. The sender is a Ms Deanne Cowland who successfuly summited in January of this year during the ‘great snows’, when Kilimanjaro was blanketed by a layer of snow several feet deep in places.

Unfortunately, Deanne’s camera failed to work in the extreme conditions and no amount of searching online has uncovered pictures of Kilimanjaro that quite convey the extreme conditions she experienced during her climb.

Which is where you lot may be able to come in. Deanne is hoping to track down some photos of Kilimanjaro during that snowy period, so she can show to her friends just how extreme, arduous - and beautiful - her climb was. I have already sent out a couple of requests to readers whom I know are in possession of such photos - Louise Fussell, for example, the lady who first brought to my attention the illegal practice of ‘buying’ summit certificates, has some beautiful images of Kili at this time - but if anybody else has photos of Kili from January/February this year when the snows were so extensive, Deanne would be very grateful to receive them; and I’d like to have a look at them myself! If you happened to meet Deanne when she was on the mountain, and maybe even took a photo of her, then that would be even better!

If you think you can help, do get in touch with us here at climbmountkilimanjaro.com, and we’ll take it from there. Thanks.
