Pioneer a new route up Kilimanjaro with us!

Thursday 18th October 2007

I am delighted to be able to announce that from next year I will be leading several treks up Kilimanjaro - as together we pioneer a new route up the mountain!

Though I can’t reveal all the details yet, I can say that we have received official permission to try out a new route to the summit of Africa’s highest mountain. This new trail makes use of Kilimanjaro’s more established paths - as well as passing through parts of the mountain where, as yet, no path exists!
In common with other routes on the mountain, this new trail is a ‘trekking-only route’ with no actual climbing involved. But this new route also enjoys significant advantages over trails, having been specifically designed to:

a) avoid, as far as is possible, the crowds of trekkers that exist on some of the other routes;

b) maximise our chances of spotting wildlife;

c) provide us with the best views of the mountain and its main features

d) give us the greatest chance of making it to the summit - where you have the option of spending the night!

Our first treks on this route are due to start in June next year (2008) and will run throughout the summer. I myself will be leading the expeditions, using the knowledge I’ve acquired from six years of trekking on and writing about Kilimanjaro to ensure that the expeditions are enjoyable, memorable and successful.

I’ll be able to finalise details of these climbs over the next few weeks. But if you are interested in finding out some more details before then, do drop us a line to the usual address and I’ll let you know.
