Fire on the Rongai Route - an update

I’ve just received a few more details about the extent of the fire that hit the Rongai Route in September of this year (see News, 15th October). According to trekkers returning from the mountain, the fire damage stretches all the way from Kikelewa Caves to Mawenzi Tarn. Surprisingly - but thankfully - nobody who has climbed on the Rongai trail since the fire has expressed disappointment with the route, despite what must be quite an unsightly scar on a large proportion of it - though one trekker did say it was rather sad to see the burnt and charred remains of the senecios!
